The Helpful young Man is a chapter in DAV Class 6 English literature book. This is a story that revolves around a young man who is helpful in nature and helps everyone in need. Once his father got sick, he got blind suddenly and could not see anything. They consulted a lot of doctor, spent a lot of money but all in vain.

A man came and said that he could get his eyesight back if he rubs the ash of a particular fish in his eyes. The young man was sent to find such fish. The young man did not kill the fish and as promised take its ash with him. He touched the ash against his eyes and to their surprise, his father got back his eyesight.

His brothers were greedy and proved him guilty that he did not do the assigned task properly. He was forced to leave the house. He went into the forest where he met a buck, saved its life. After that he helped a jackal. Then he went into a palace that was owned by a princess.

The princess told him that she would marry him if he could evade his reflection in her magical mirror. He tried twice but got traced. As he looked a genuine person, the adorable princess offered him one last chance. This time the jackal advised him to hide himself under the princess’ bed. To his surprise the lady could not trace him and accepted her defeat.

After this, the young married the beautiful princess and they lived a happy life ever after.

1.Why did the young man go to remote sea?

The young man went to the remote sea because his father lost his eyesight and he could only be treated with the eyes of particular fish. He went to the sea facing all the calamities just to restore his father’s vision.

The young man saved the buck’s life by not telling the hunters where the buck was hiding. A group of hunters was after the buck, they wanted to kill it. The young man was asked if he had seen any buck. He acted strange and said, ‘What is a buck?’

They thought that he is a stupid man as he did not know nothing about a buck.

The princess proclaimed that whosoever could evade his reflection from the mirror will become his husband and the palace will belong to him too.

The buck asked him to sit on his horn and it took the young man to the remote hill in order to hide from the princess’s mirror.

The jackal held a conference with other jackals. They wondered a lot and advised him to hide under the princess’s bed. They assured him that this way she will not be able to trace him.
